Eudocia Lascaris A byzantine princess in Spain

udocia Lascaris, A Byzantine princess from Nicaea who ended up in the kingdom Aragon, modern Spain.

I was asked to draw her as she has never depicted before in the past. She was the daughter of Theodore II Lascaris. Her brother had a sad fate being the victim of Michael Palaiologos, the founder of this famous dynasty.

Eudocia and her sisters were married off to some Western nobles in order not to raise a dynastic issue. Thus Eudocia married Pietro Ventimiglia who adopted the double headed eagle as his coat of arms. Their descendants would keep both the Laskaris and Ventimiglia surnames. They had 7 children together and when Pietro died, Eudocia and her daughters went to Aragon where she married once again a local noble. They had 4 children together. She founded 2 monasteries in Aragon which can still be seen today. I added one of them in the background.
